Beginner’s Guide To Juicing That Will Make You a Believer

So, initially, you may have thought juicing was just some health trend that would soon fade into oblivion, like so many health fads do. Or your interest may have been peaked, but yet, juicing just seemed so unrealistic or overwhelming. But the more you continue to hear about juicing, the more you consider giving it a whirl. If this sounds like you, you are not alone! It sometimes takes people a bit longer to jump on the juicing train, but this beginner’s guide to juicing Do’s and Don’ts below will help get you started during your first week.

Beginner’s Guide to Your First Week of Juicing

The DO’S!

1. DO research and learn as much as you possibly can before beginning any type of juice cleanse.

We don’t suggest learning everything as you go. The more you can research beforehand, the more prepared and confident you will feel going into juicing.

You’ll be less likely to break down and discontinue your cleanse if you know ahead of time the feelings and cravings you’ll be getting and how to work through those. You will also be able to make a wider variety of juices and keeps things interesting if you research websites and recipes beforehand.

2. DO know that if you are doing a full on juice cleanse, that that the first four days are reportedly the hardest for most people.

In these first few days, you’ll still be craving many foods and wondering if you are doing the right thing. Your body will likely be calling out for sugars and you’ll be most tempted during these first few days of a cleanse. Know that this is temporary and continue to push through.

3. DO stay hydrated.

This is usually the beginner’s guide #1 tip to being healthy. Not drinking enough water can cause you to feel extra hungry. Even the slightest bit of dehydration may cause hunger pangs. Feeling dizzy and having headaches are other signs that you need more water. Listen to your body and try to drink at least half your body weight in ounces each day.

4. DO purchase a quality juicer.

Juicers are not cheap, but getting a quality one is important. The cheaper the juicer, typically the more difficult and inconvenient it will be. And if your juicer is difficult to use, let’s be honest, you won’t be juicing for very long.

So go ahead (if you can) and splurge a bit on that first juicer. It should last longer and you’ll be happy you did when you realize how much easier it is to use and clean. The Breville Juice Fountain Elite is a pretty great mid-range price option. Check it out!

The DON’TS!

1. DON’T forget the garnish!

A beginner’s guide quick tip: a small amount of a deliciously flavored garnish will go a long way and help you get through your first week especially. Try mint, lemon, ginger, basil, or any other herbs you love. This will help switch up the flavor of each of your juices and also provided added nutritional benefits.

2. DON’T use too many fruits as ingredients.

Make sure you have a good vegetable base (our favorites include kale, spinach, celery, and broccoli). Fruit contains fructose, and too much fructose can cause your blood sugar levels to rapidly spike, which is not good for metabolism or sustained energy. This also can be dangerous for those suffering from diabetes or high blood sugar.

3. DON’T leave your juicer dirty.

We all have those days where we are in a time crunch and just want to juice and run, but cleaning or at least rinsing off or soaking your juicer parts will save you a lot of hard work in the long run. Trust us on this!
